Closer look at a project: PUM in Benin

One of the organisations we supported recently is PUM, which operates in Benin. We provided this project with computer material so they could install computer classrooms at the IUSEBA University in Parakou, Benin. This university trains, among others, nurses and obstetricians.

PUM Netherlands senior experts is a volunteer organisation committed to the sustainable development of small and medium-size enterprises in developing countries and emerging markets. They offer practical expertise within the most important sectors of the economy, giving primary attention to producers and consumers.

Two PUM experts focused on filling in the curriculum of nursing and obstetrics at the IUSEBA University in Benin. During multiple missions to the country, they made an inventory of the elements needed in the classrooms. They then set up classrooms for practical classes for the students.

The two colleagues quickly saw that course material was not available for the students. A solution would be a classroom with computers which they could use to study and to look up information. That's how Close the Gap entered the picture. We could provide this project with a number of computers so that PUM could set up a computer lab with course material and subject-oriented scientific books and research works.

"Thanks to Close the Gap we could send qualitative ICT material to Benin, which students can now use to study. It is very rewarding to see how happy the teachers and students are with their new computer classroom!" Josette Olde Kalter, PUM.
