Moving to the capital!
In April 2026, we proudly launched a new refurbishment plant in Syokimau, Nairobi. This new facility will serve as a regional hub to upcycle and redistribute IT devices among entrepreneurs, educational initiatives and job creation projects in Kenya. As with all our IT provisions, the hub will also be open to other NGOs and civil society organizations for sustainable and digital support of their administration and activities.
Our new 2,000-square-metre facility in Nairobi has the capacity to process up to 200,000 devices annually, significantly expanding the output of 45,000 devices that were handled each year from our Mombasa plant in Jomvu. The Nairobi hub will provide end-of-life device management services to corporates, public institutions, and large organisations, including secure data erasure, refurbishment, and resale or donation pathways. The initiative is expected to strengthen Kenya’s circular economy by extending the lifecycle of ICT equipment while improving access to affordable and reliable technology.
The relocation of our processes from Mombasa to Nairobi is a strategic one, placing our circular IT activities at the heart of the corporate environment in the capital. That way, the hub is to become a new cornerstone for the refurbishment of larger volumes of IT equipment and for the reuse of more devices. It represents a direct investment in local economic development as a new venue for employment, training, and knowledge-sharing.
Ever since 2003, we have been repurposing European collection streams of corporate IT equipment to sustainably support social projects in low-income countries. Contrary to imported IT flows from abroad, our Kenyan warehouse focuses on servicing local companies within the country. That strategy allows us to collect, refurbish, and repurpose locally, acting independently from European markets. This implementation is a direct investment in Kenya’s local economic prospects, job creation and the digital confidence of a new generation. As an integral part of our local presence, the Nairobi facility will boost the Kenyan circular ICT sector sustainably, while prioritizing collaborations with corporate and public ecosystems nationwide.
In warm presence of our supporting partners, Close the Gap ambassadors, colleagues and friends, our warehouse was inaugurated with great enthusiasm. The event was graced by keynotes and panel debates by Belgian, Dutch, and European Union Ambassadors to Kenya, HE Peter Maddens, HE Henk-Jan Bakker, and HE Henriette Geiger, as well as by PS for Correctional Services, Dr. Salome M. Beacco, CBS. We look forward to the impact we'll make from the beating heart of Kenya.
