Who Thaki serves
Thaki — pronounced “the key” and meaning “smart” in Arabic — operates across the Middle East, primarily in Lebanon and Jordan, where millions of children have been affected by regional crises. These children often face interrupted schooling, limited resources, and environments where stable internet access is not guaranteed.
Thaki addresses these challenges by delivering repurposed laptops preloaded with high‑quality, multilingual, and fully offline educational content. This approach ensures that even in low‑connectivity settings, students and teachers can access a rich digital learning experience.
Nurturing confidence, creativity, and resilience.
A complete digital learning ecosystem
Every device delivered by Thaki is more than a laptop, it is a portable digital library. The laptops come equipped with:
- The Thaki App, a custom-built offline digital library of vetted, engaging e-learning programs.
- Content in Arabic, English, and French, complementing local curricula and supporting multilingual learning.
- Teacher onboarding and training modules, including lesson plans and resources that bridge traditional and digital pedagogy.
- Nour’s World, Thaki’s social-emotional learning program now included on all devices.
In recent years, Thaki has expanded its library to include STEM-focused materials, language development programs, civic education, social-emotional learning (SEL), self-defense training, and early childhood education modules. This scope ensures that children receive not only academic support but also holistic learning tools that nurture confidence, creativity, and resilience.
Impact at scale
Thaki’s model sits at the intersection of education equity, sustainability, and innovation. By giving second life to donated laptops and embedding them with meaningful content, the organization reduces e‑waste while expanding access to digital literacy for children who would otherwise be left behind.
Thaki has repurposed thousands of devices and reached tens of thousands of students across refugee schools and learning centers in Lebanon and Jordan. Their approach has earned recognition as a trusted regional actor in digital inclusion. The contribution of Close the Gap laptops has been essential in scaling this work.
A partnership rooted in shared values
Close the Gap’s contribution of more than 2,000 laptops since 2019 has strengthened Thaki’s ability to reach classrooms that would otherwise lack digital tools. Together, we are advancing a shared vision: ensuring that every child, regardless of circumstance, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and shape their own future.
