On the night of Friday the 22nd of October, the DigiTruck in France, which had been set up on Place de la Liberté in Roubaix since Monday the 18th of October, was unfortunately set on fire. Huawei and its partners, Simplon and Close the Gap, regret this act of vandalism. It penalises the inhabitants of the Hauts-de-France region who take part in this programme to promote digital inclusion. The DigiTruck has been touring the Hauts-de-France region since the 5th of July to offer free courses and workshops to people with digital challenges. The container that is converted into a mobile classroom has already received more than 1,000 people during the past months.
The Digitruck is now immobilised in Roubaix, due to the events that took place during the weekend of the 22nd and the 23rd of October. Huawei, Simplon and Close the Gap will continue to cooperate fully with the investigation of the public services and the investigators in order to provide them with all the information they may need. Huawei and its partners wish to continue this programme of support towards digital inclusion, despite the difficulties caused by this situation. The Digitruck responds to a real need among the French population of whom, according to the Digital Barometer carried out by CREDOC in 2021, at least 35% are to experience "at least one form of difficulty during their lives, preventing them from fully making use of digital tools".
The courses and workshops have therefore continued at L'Avant Poste for the last week in Roubaix. From Tuesday the 2nd of November, a similar schedule will start in Saint-Quentin (from November the 2nd to the 5th of November at Laroche Primary School then at the Palais des Sports from the 8th until the 12th of November). Saint-Quentin is the last stage of the Digitruck programme, which will end on the 12th of November. Huawei, Simplon and Close the Gap would like to thank all those who have shown their support. Our commitment continues.
