This first South African Digitruck, sponsored by Deloitte Belgium was built by local vendors in Capetown and has been specially designed for Up for All (formerly Brothers for All), and will bring mobile IT solutions to the Langa Township.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, present at the inauguration of the first Digitruck in 2014, made a special appearance to help launch this Digitruck in the shadow of Table Mountain at the V&A Waterfront.

Update from Tanzania

In November 2015, the Tuleeni Orphanage and Neema International welcomed the Digitruck at their premises, in the remote village of Uru in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. For the past 6 months, classes in the Digitruck are being implemented 5 days a week. And since since the arrival of the truck 6 months ago, Neema International has been able to pull nearly 75 children off the street and offer them love, stimulation, and education through technology.

Close the Gap, together with Neema International, believe that ICT for Education is a key contribution to universal access to education, equity in education, the delivery of quality learning and teaching and thus, access to more qualified jobs.

Mandy Stein, executive director of Neema International says: "From the moment that Digitruck arrived and classes began, a new energy came into the orphanage and Uru village. Tuleeni Orphanage Center has become a sign of hope and life line to safety for the people and they started showing up by the dozen looking to get a spot in the one of our classes! The demand has been so high, we started a waitlist for locals wanting to going back to school to get a second chance at life through education. The Digitruck has been a huge transformation across the village."

Close the Gap has an additional Digitruck destination to Democratic Republic of Congo in the pipeline, with an expected delivery by Q3 of 2016.
