Today, the Belgacom Foundation will grant support to 36 non-profit organizations and Belgian student associations which were selected for their projects aimed at stimulating intergenerational dialogue. In addition, over 500 computers will be donated to non-profit associations and special needs schools.

In the framework of “2012, European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations”, 36 local projects aimed at stimulating intergenerational dialogue will share the sum of €450,000 donated by the Belgacom Group this year. The project budgets range from €1,500 to €50,000. A call for projects was launched in the spring by the Belgacom Foundation, and the non-profit and student associations responded by submitting a total of 82 projects. An independent jury of experts from the intergenerational dialogue sector selected the winning projects.

Anne-Sophie Parent, Secretary General of AGE Platform Europe and President of the Jury: “I was thrilled to participate in the selection of 36 fine local initiatives, which fit in perfectly with the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012. I am also delighted that the Belgacom Foundation has decided to continue to support intergenerational dialogue by focusing on active ageing in 2012.”

The Belgacom Foundation will follow the progress of the winning projects throughout their implementation. A description of all the projects and the names of the non-profit and student associations which obtained the different prizes can be found on the Foundation’s site (www.Belgacom.com/foundation ) as from 12 October.

This year, the Belgacom Foundation will also distribute over 500 computers to non-profit associations and special needs schools in partnership with the partner Close the Gap.

In 2012, the Belgacom Foundation will continue its efforts in this area by organizing a new call for projects aimed at stimulating intergenerational dialogue, but this time with a special focus on active ageing.

The Belgacom Foundation

The Belgacom Group has been involved in social patronage initiatives since 2003, and has supported more than 800 projects of non-profit associations for a total of more than 5 million euro until 2010. Also, several thousands of computers have been distributed to schools and non-profit associations in the fight to bridge the digital divide.

Drawing from this experience, Belgacom created the Belgacom Foundation, whose mission is to support sustainable, innovative initiatives that aim to create, restore or improve social bonds between communities and people.
